Chesterhill Produce Auction
Goods and services | Consumer goods |
Example | Local produce, handcrafted wood products, livestock |
Social Enterprise Information
Legal Structure | Nonprofit Organization |
Social Impact Area | Agriculture |
Example | We're a rural food hub in a heavily disadvantaged area, so we see providing a marketplace for fresh, local produce as our biggest socially conscious activity. We also work with regional convenient stores and hospitals in food deserts to create pop-up produce stands, and deliver produce to those areas. We provide education to local beginning farmers so they can improve their operations and access larger markets. With some of the produce sold, we purchase it and process it into fresh lunches that are served in several local school districts. Finally, we host a yearly field trip for local elementary school students to learn about their local food economy, composting, nutrition, and their outdoor environment. |
Target Beneficiaries | Businesses, Children, Disadvantaged groups and communities, Farmers, Schools, The general public |
Example | Local and regional farmers are our biggest beneficiaries, as we built the marketplace for them. However, we use the food sold at the auction to provide benefit to local schools, the general public in food deserts, and low-to-medium income people who can't afford fresh produce. |
